Writing is never an easy process, and we all need help sometimes. Your aim is important in determining the right editing process. Some writers are producing work for personal use, and others are seeking publication.
I edit fiction and non-fiction works using a collaborative process. My specialties are professional biographies and, in fiction, the genres of Commercial Women's Fiction and Crime/Gothic stories.
The process and prices for the two main editing processes are set out below. Don't assume that you need a completed manuscript before we start. Progressive feedback is often far more useful and incurs less cost.
Structural Editing

This is a 'helicopter' edit that reviews the structure, characterisation, narrative flow and writing style of your story.
- Full Edit
Editing a completed manuscript of 50,000+ words will range in price from $1,400 to $2,000. I can provide an estimate based on the word count and after reviewing a sample of your story.
- Sample Edit
I will edit the initial chapters at a rate of 3,000 words each hour, charging $75 per hour. You can then make the decision to do further editing yourself, or seek further comment from me. It is a more cost-effective method and better development for writers who want to work on other projects in the future.
Line Editing

A line edit will review grammar, sentence structure, and basic style elements covering 2,000 words each hour at a rate of $75 per hour. A sample of your work, usually the first chapter, is required to assess the best approach for what you want to achieve.
